Summer Wish List with Spring

Today’s post is from…a website I came across that was inspired by the boutiques lining Spring Street in New York City’s SoHo. They try to bring together different shops and looks into one place for people to buy from! Check them out, especially their awesome Accessory Shop that features hundreds of brands! This skirt is GORGEOUS and I love how it is a little longer.

Graduation Season!!

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

It’s that time of year again and I don’t know about you but my Facebook events calendar is filled up graduation party after graduation party so I thought I’d share some DIY’s from my party last year!

It seems like a lifetime ago that I was graduating high school since so much has changed in just one year.

My prayers are with any of you that are graduating. Always remember the Lord has amazing things in store so you must trust in Him no matter what circumstance comes your way.

These were so fun to make because they were more personal than regular party banners and the final product looked super cute! What you need is:

  • Colorful scrapbook paper
  • Large letter stickers
  • Twine or ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Hole Punch
  • Optional: Pictures of the graduates!
  1. First, find some fun scrapbook paper in the colors of your choice! We picked the school colors for our colleges, which ended up looking great together.Processed with VSCOcam with q1 preset
  2. To create the triangles, fold the scrapbook paper in half FOUR times.

    3. With a pencil, lightly draw a diagonal line and cut the folded paper in half.

    4. You should end up with four complete triangle and a few scrap pieces if you use a regular square piece of scrapbook paper. Processed with VSCOcam with q1 preset

    5. After that lay out the triangles in the order you want them to go

    6. Add stickers to say whatever you want

    7. Then all you need is to hole punch them and hang with twine! We added some pictures of my best friend and I which is another fun way to personalize the decorations.Processed with VSCOcam with q1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with q1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with q1 preset

Individual Seven-Layer Dips

This appetizer was perfect because so many people are walking around at graduation parties with their hands full and it was easy to just grab a cup and go! I would suggest this for smaller parties since it was so time consuming, but everyone loved the individual cups! You will need:

  • Small plastic cups
  • Refried beans
  • Guacamole
  • Sour Cream
  • Cut up unions
  • Salsa (optional: we didn’t put any salsa on our because of how runny it can be)
  • Cheese
  • Diced olives
  • Tortilla chips
  1. We put our cups on cookie sheets (to help move them around) then filled the bottoms with a layer of refried beans.Processed with VSCOcam with q1 preset
  2. Next, we added guacamole,Processed with VSCOcam with q1 preset
  3. the sour cream and cut up onions,Processed with VSCOcam with q1 preset
  4. and topped them with cheese, olives, and a few tortilla chips.Processed with VSCOcam with q1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with q1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with q1 preset

I hope you all have a fun and safe graduation season and congratulations to the Class of 2016!!!

Let’s Catch Up!

I am the worst and haven’t posted in over a month! Life is so crazy and overwhelming but the Lord’s love and mercy makes everything beautiful and I am so so thankful. I’m praying that with summer coming up I’ll have more time to blog and invest in my site…I’m looking at a couple new designs and I’m getting super excited about that! But for a little catch up here’s what’s been going on with me:

1. I’M MOVING TO ITALY!!!! (Well temporarily…) But guys I’m SO STOKED that I’m studying abroad in the fall with my college! So for a couple months this year my blog will be all about my adventures abroad in Italy and throughout Europe. I cannot wait to share them all with you! LET’S BE ADVENTURERS!!

florence.jpg2. I’m doing Fr. Michael Gaitley’s 33 Days to Merciful Love right now and it is wonderful. The Lord’s mercy is outstanding and I cannot believe how little attention I’ve paid to Him in that regard. Seriously, this consecration to Divine Mercy is awesome and you all should check it out. (PS I bought my book from an awesome Catholic website whose prices were close to those on Amazon and they support Marian groups across the world so please consider purchasing from them!)

3. All that being said, Divine Mercy has been ROCKING MY WORLD. I started praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet every day at 3pm…DO IT. The Lord’s mercy is overflowing but we need to accept it first. He’s waiting for you to ask for His mercy in your life and I promise it will not disappoint.

4. Freshman year is almost over and I cannot believe how time has passed so quickly, but I’m excited for the adventures of this summer and my study abroad in the fall!

Not much has changed but I’ve been so busy it’s been crazy! Thanks for hanging in there with me 🙂 I hope to invest A LOT more time into the blog in the coming months…I’m praying for all of you and I ask for prayers that I can continue to do the Lord’s will with this blog in the future.

Here’s an Instagram round-up!!

Lent Pick Me Up

To all my fellow cradle Catholics out there…does anyone else feel like Lent was so much easier when we were kids?! I remember taking my Lenten promises SO seriously and not faltering from them at all. Now I’m getting to that point in Lent where I reeeeally want that Chai Tea or Sonic slushy but I am supposed to only be drinking water and green tea for Lent.

I really want those drinks and I find myself justifying getting them…if only I had the same fervor for Lent as I did when I was younger. The funny part is that as I’ve gotten older I should be more aware of the purpose of giving up things for Lent.

I’ve been reading a lot of articles about how Lent should not be known as the “Catholic diet plan” and this is SO true. I think as I’ve grown older I’ve seen that I get more out of Lent when I do something more instead of giving up something.

In the women’s group I’m in on my campus, we were talking about some practical things you can DO for Lent and I decided to put some ideas on here! I think at this time in Lent it is important to look at what we decided to do two weeks ago and really make sure that we are following our promises. If not, I encourage you to change them up a bit so that you have something else to work on! So here are some ideas:

  1. Daily Mass
  2. Daily Adoration
  3. Write down names of people in your life and every day pick one to pray for that day (I’ve been doing this and it’s awesome!)
  4. Visit a retirement home or homeless shelter once a week.
  5. Go to Confession every week
  6. Pray a Rosary every day
  7. Write a letter to someone you love everyday
  8. Journal to God about your daily life

Father, REAWAKEN us in this time of Lent

// February Favorites //

Short favorites for a short month since I could not think of much 🙂 life has been uneventful but so so good.

Clothing Item

OK OK even though I only wore it once this month…I’m OBSESSED with my dress for my college’s scholarship fundraiser. I got it from a department store but it is from Calvin Klein. I got so many compliments and the best part is it was SOOOO comfy and had pockets!! Go get you one here.

Beauty Item

I’ve been getting into a better routine of actually doing my skincare routine, so even though it’s not new, I’ve been using my Total Resurfacing Masque from the Ageless line at Image Skincare. It has been keeping my face so clear which is making me fall in love with the product all over again! Check out my last post on my entire skincare routine!

I have three rings (now four!) that I wear everyday and this month I got my ring that is supposed to be a reminder of the Marian Consecration I did in November and I’m in love…thank you Mamma for always being with me. (Also got acrylic nails for the first time and I love them since I’ve NEVER had long nails)

Green tea solely because its all I’m letting myself drink other than water during lent 😦 give me my chai back! But I have been drinking my water with lemons, limes, cucumbers, and mint leaves lately…so refreshing!

Offering up mass for one person everyday…keeps you accountable to go to mass and a great way to do something for someone else during Lent.

This month my college had our father-daughter/mother-son dance and it was soo fun! My dad even surprised me and came early with a car that I was supposed to not get until over the summer!

A couple of weeks ago we had a crazy warm weekend so we got some firewood and went to a nearby lake and made a bonfire. We just sat around listening to country music for awhile and it was seriously the most content I’ve been in a long, long time.

Then my school’s scholarship ball last weekend was a BLAST. I’m absolutely loving this school and all the people here.

Skincare Routine

Ahh there is nothing (beauty-wise) I love more than taking care of my skin! All the girls in my family have really sensitive skin so my mom has always made sure we use skin care items that won’t make us break out. That being said, the products I’m talking about today are a little more on the pricey side but can also be used as ideas when looking at drug store products! Most of these products have been recommended by either my dermatologist or my facialist and if you would like to try them, all of them can be found online!

Night Time:

I’m not going to lie, some nights I just don’t have the energy to do every step I’m supposed to but nights where I get all of this done definitely make a difference for my skin!

  • To start, I use my Skin Ceuticals Gentle Cleanser to get most of what is on the surface of my face off. It’s a mild cleanser that is perfect for sensitive skin! All I do is put a pump in my hand with water and gently scrub my face with my hands.

  • Next, I put more of the Gentle Cleanser on my face and guide my Clairsonic Mia 2 all over my face. The Clairsonic is perfect because it keeps track of time itself. I put it on my forehead for 30 seconds, then my nose, chin and mouth for 30 seconds and finally each cheek for 15 seconds to give a deeper clean of my skin and get everything out of my pores!
  • If I have time, I pull out my Image Ageless total resurfacing masque which I leave on for 30 minutes. Even though it is anti-aging, my facialist suggested it as a preventative masque that brightens the skin and get out any excess dirt and oil. I try to do this once or twice a week but it’s usually a treat to have time for this step!

  • After either the masque or just using my Clairsonic, I take out my Skin Ceuticals Equalizing Toner for a final wipe through of my skin. I specifically focus on my neck because it’s hard to clean off makeup with soap and water in that area.

  • The last step on my skin before moisturizing is using my Image Clear Cell medicated acne lotion that I use as a spot treatment for break outs. I use a tiny tiny pump and simply rub it into any problem areas and I swear it just zaps them away!

  • I usually then brush my teeth, floss, and mouthwash and then use my Sara Happ or lip scrubs to give a little love to my lips!

  • Finally, moisturizers!! Depending on the night, there are two face moisturizers I love. If I’m rushing through my night time skin routine I usually just use the Cetaphil heavy moisturizer. If I do the full masque I use the Image Ormedic balancing bio-peptide creme since it helps restore and moisturize the skin after so much exfoliation.

  • Finally a good night’s sleep is so great for your skin!!

Morning Routine

  • Right after I wake up I wash my face with the same Skin Ceuticals Gentle Cleanser as before!
  • I usually have very oily skin in the morning after using heavy moisturizers at night so my facialist suggested the Image Clear Cell salicylic clarifying tonic to use as a toner in the morning. It dries up the oil and reduces inflammation that leads to break outs.

  •  If needed I’ll put some more of the Image Clear Cell medicated acne lotion spot treatment on problem areas.
  • If my skin is feeling super dry I’ll put Cetaphil on as well but I usually just put on the Image Prevention+ tinted moisturizer with SPF 30 as a base for my make up!

I also try to get facials about three to four times a year. They are like a detox for your skin and really help keep it healthy!! Keep in mind that I live in a very dry climate and have very sensitive skin which is why I use all of these products. Everyone has different circumstances and skin tones but I hope you like this routine and I hope it inspires you to give a little extra love and investment to your skin!

Forgive Us Our Sins

Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.

Well, I cannot believe it is already Lent…it seriously caught up to me so fast! Now all Catholics face the age old question: what are you giving up for Lent?

I always laugh when I talk with different people about past Lents and things we did to ourselves. I think about that time in 4th grade when I gave up biting my nails, or every year when I try to eat less sugar, or even last year when I only drank water and green tea. We focus on these bad habits in our lives for 40 days, and then what?

Don’t get me wrong, I totally believe in choosing something to “give-up” for Lent and I definitely have a list of things to work on over the next 40 days, but I’m trying to remember these little sacrifices do nothing in comparison to the sacrifice Christ made on the Cross.

It is so good and beautiful to be intentional about our actions during these 40 days, but it is not enough to only do so during this time. Lenten sacrifices are supposed to remind us of the luxuries we enjoy ALL the time so that we realize that we do not need them ALL the time.

So this Lent, instead of worrying about the length of my fingernails, I’m going to think about the nails in Christ’s hands and feet, constantly reminding myself those nails were for me. Instead of simply resisting chocolate on Valentine’s Day, I’m going to think about the bitter-sweetness of the Last Supper as Christ gave us the greatest gift of the Eucharist, while knowing what He was about to endure in just a few hours. Instead of constantly thinking about the messages I am missing on social media, I’ll think think of the great message of love that Christ gave us through His suffering. Instead of complaining about my thirst for caffeine, I’ll remember Christ’s thirst on the Cross.

I pray that our little sacrifices over the next 40 days not only bring us to a deeper understanding of Christ’s great sacrifice, but remind us to imitate Christ in every aspect of our lives.

“The ashes tell the world that we are sinners. But they are in the sign of the cross…and so we are sinners who have hope.” -Father Richard Veras
